“Pray for Priests Year 2012” is a project initiated by Serra International in thanksgiving to God the Father for the gift of the priesthood, the gift of our priests to the Church.

At the same time, it is also an expression of our love and support for our priests. We echo the words of St. Paul to the Philippians (1:3-5): “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, thankful for your partnership in the gospel”

HOW IT WORKS

The objective of Serra International’s “Pray for Priests Year 2012” initiative is to form teams of prayer intercessors (minimum of 7 intercessors per team to pray for one priest) to spiritually cover every priest with the following prayers for the whole of 2012:

  1. A Mass daily

  2. 7 Decades of the Holy Rosary daily

  3. 7 Chaplets of the Divine Mercy daily

WHAT PRAYER INTERCESSORS DO

  1. Pray for one priest by NAME everyday for the whole of 2012 with the following commitment:

  2. Offer ONE Mass per week for the priestly intentions and sanctification of the priest concerned.

Pray one decade of the Holy Rosary and one Divine Mercy Chaplet for the priest (this takes at most 10 minutes!) everyday.

Each prayer intercessor will be given a prayer card with the name of the priest to pray for, the team leader’s name and contact and the day he/she is supposed to offer the Mass for the priest concerned and the daily minimum prayer commitment. This card will also serve as a reminder for the intercessor to pray.

WHAT PRAYER TEAM LEADERS DO

  1. Recruit at least 6 other members to form a basic prayer team.

  2. Once the basic 7-member team (inclusive of the leader) is in place, send a card to inform the priest concerned of the daily prayer offering for him.

  3. Ensure that his/her team members are keeping to their prayer commitment; this could be done through regular contact through email or telephone calls, etc.

  4. Keep a record of the members’ contacts and days on which each member is offering the daily Mass for the priest concerned.

  5. Inform each prayer team member who the other team members are and preferably give each member a list of contacts.

  6. Collate all the prayers offered at the end of 2012 and present the spiritual bouquet to the priest concerned.

F.A.Q.

What if I don’t have time to say the prayers?
It’s worth a try as it only takes 10 minutes a day!

What if I forget to say my daily prayers?
You can make it up in the next day.

Do I have to pay stipend to offer the weekly Mass?
No, simply tell God that you are attending the Mass for the intentions of the priest you are praying for.

What if I can’t offer Mass on my assigned day?
You can ask someone else to do it on your behalf.

What if I don’t attend weekday Mass?
It is a good time to start! Your team leader must ensure that a Mass is offered by a team member everyday.

What does 1 Divine Mercy Chaplet mean?
5 decades of ‘For the Sake of His Sorrowful Passion’

Must the team pray in a group?
No, members can pray at their own time

I travel frequently. Can I still participate?
Yes, be sure to keep in touch with your team regularly.

What if I am already saying the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet for other intentions everyday?
In addition to your existing prayers, you should say another decade of the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet specifically for the priest you are praying for.
