Serra Club Launches Second Prayer Book
March 2010

Four years into its “Friends of Serra Club” initiative, the Serra Club of Singapore has launched its second volume of Prayers for Eucharistic Adoration for Vocations. The Chaplain of Serra Club of Singapore and Parish Priest of Church of the Holy Cross, Rev. Fr. Richards Ambrose, blessed and launched the prayer book on Saturday, 6 March 2010 after sunset Mass in the presence of the members of Serra Club at Church of the Holy Cross.
Launched in April 2006, “Friends of Serra Club” is a programme where Catholics pledge to pray a minimum of one hour a month before the Blessed Sacrament for priests, seminarians and for more vocations.
There are over 1,500 prayer warriors not only from Singapore but from across the causeway in Malaysia, Brunei, India etc who faithfully pray to the Lord of the Harvest for more labourers in His Vineyard. “Friends of Serra Club” were each given a prayer booklet containing seven sets of prayers for each day of the week as a guide to help Catholics initially on how they can spend the one hour in prayer.
Sean Yeo, President of Serra Club of Singapore noted: “We have received many positive feedbacks from “Friends of Serra Club” on how useful the prayers were as a guide to help them to pray. It’s been four years now and we felt it was time to refresh with a new set of prayer intentions.”
This second edition is entitled “I will give you shepherds after My Own Heart” Jeremiah 3:15. This book aptly commemorates the “Year for Priests” and aims to inspire more Catholics to pray unceasingly for our priests, seminarians, youths and for more priestly vocations. The prayer book has obtained the Nihil Obstat from Rev. Fr. William Goh, and Imprimatur from Archbishop Nicholas Chia.
This second edition of the 144-page prayer book comes with different prayer themes. While still praying for priests, seminarians, youths and for more vocations, the prayers add another dimension by interceding for various sections of the Catholic community who also play a part in supporting priests, seminarians and priestly vocations such as the family, the catechists, seminary formators, vocation promoters and the church community. These groups of people too need prayers as they can play a major part in influencing and nurturing vocations and in supporting our priests and seminarians.
Said Rev. Fr. Richards Ambrose, Chaplain of Serra Club of Singapore: “We pray that our prayer warriors will find this edition to be inspiring and will help to lead them into a deeper and more spiritual prayer relationship with the Lord. Ultimately, in praying for others and spending time before the Blessed Sacrament, we too will be blessed by the Lord in His own way and in His time. We pray and thank the Lord for all our ‘Friends of Serra Club’ for their love of the priesthood and for their unfailing prayers.”
